Wales Accord on the Sharing of Personal Information

The Wales Accord on the Sharing of Personal Information (WASPI) provides a framework for service-providing organisations directly concerned with the health, education, safety, crime prevention and social well being of people in Wales. In particular, it concerns those organisations that hold information about individuals and who may consider it appropriate or necessary to share that information with others in a lawful and intelligent way.

The framework is made up of two parts:

  • The Accord– consists of a common set of corporate principles and standards under which partner organisations will share information. Signing up to the Accord records the commitment of each partner organisation, to meet agreed standards for the sharing of personal identifiable information, and to use the framework. TheDeclaration of Acceptance and Participation MUST be signed by the Chief Executive or equivalent; and
  • The Information Sharing Protocol (ISP) – identifies the operational data requirements to be shared for specific and lawful purposes.
